DIY | MICKEY & MINNIE SWEATSHIRTS

Last year I made Mickey Ear beanies for Traci and myself to wear to Disneyland. I handmade giant pom-poms with thick black yarn and sewed them onto black beanies I bought at the dollar store. This year I decided to complete the look with Mickey and Minnie sweatshirts! They turned out super cute and super easy! Can't wait to wear them to Disneyland soon...
Gather your supplies:

  • 1 red sweatshirt & 1 black sweat shirt in the SAME SIZE
  • Quilting shears
  • Quilting mat and ruler
  • White fabric paint
  • Foam pouncer
  • Chalk

Turn the sweatshirt inside out and line up the bottom of the sweatshirt with the bottom of the cutting board.
Cut the sweatshirt in half trying to be as straight as possible (this was about 11 and 3/4 inches from the bottom).
Do the same with the black sweatshirt.
Pin the bottom half of the black with the top half of the red and vice versa, right sides together. Sew them together. (This is why it's important to get the same sized sweatshirts.)
Stamp polka dots on the top half of the Minnie sweatshirt using the same method I used here. You may want to use a smaller or larger pouncer and vary the spacing between the dots depending on the sizes of your sweatshirt.
For the Mickey sweatshirt I cut out ovals out of paper and traced them onto my fabric using chalk. I used a paint brush to paint them in. I also painted the same two ovals on the back side of the sweatshirt.
I gave all the dots a second coat of paint.
Here we are wearing them at Christmas! I'm so glad this DIY turned out as great as I imagined.

xoxo, allison
