Last week we took Joyce out for her birthday. We wanted to try some place new so Traci spent all Thursday and Friday (yea yea we didn't actually finalize our dinner plans until hours before...procrastination at its finest) in between meetings at work yelping restaurants around Disneyland (since we planned on surprising Joyce with a quick trip to watch the fireworks & snow on Main Street!). After failing to make reservations at another restaurant (we didn't want to eat dinner at 9:45 pm), we ended up at Bistro Bleu. It seems a little out of place in the same strip mall as a Zumba studio, but the huge blue sign above the opening reminded me immediately of the movie Ratatouille. The people there were super friendly, and our waitress brought us each a small glass of cold potato soup, compliments of the chef! Our waitress hesitantly held out the wine menu after asking us if we were of age (gotta love asian girl syndrome) after which we looked at each other, laughed, and told her we were but we wouldn't be drinking tonight...still not sure if she believed us.
We ordered three entrees to share:
LE STEAK AU POIVRE
Grilled New York strip loin Steak laced with a 3-Peppercorn and Brandy Cream Sauce and whipped potatoes. (It was cooked perfectly medium rare just like I asked. Traci had me do the cutting, per usual.)
PANACHÉ DE FRUITS DE MER
Sautéed Shrimp, Scallops, and Mussels in a Tarragon and white wine cream sauce over angel hair pasta. We got extra scallops instead of shrimp since Joyce is allergic.
SUPRÉME DE CANARD À L'ORANGE
Oven-roasted breast of Duck with a classic Orange sauce and whipped potatoes. This was my favorite.
CHOCOLATE SOUFFLÉ
Hot Belgium Chocolate Soufflé with dark chocolate sauce and Chantilly.
You absolutely MUST get this if you go. It was amazing. Traci is convinced that we have to make these at home. If anything, we'll be back just for the chocolate souffle...and to try the rest of the dessert menu (which includes a classic crème brûlée that they bring to you on fire (!) with fresh fruit, warm peach cobbler with cinnamon créme and maple syrup drizzle, and flourless chocolate and hazelnut cake with chantilly and berries) yum!
xoxo, allison
P.S. If you check-in on Yelp you can score 1 free dessert with purchase of two entrees at dinner, Tuesday through Thursday only.
